The Trump-Musk Breakup is Finally Here and it’s Messy
Grab your popcorn! The thing that everyone knew would eventually happen is finally happening. President Donald Trump and his advisor, Elon Musk, are having a messy and emotional breakup.
It all started after Musk left the Trump administration last week. The departure was friendly and filled with compliments, but Musk's anger and dissatisfaction soon aired out. At the center of Musk’s frustration is Trump’s new tax bill. The bill would likely blow up the deficit, as it gives tax cuts to America’s upper class whilst cutting Medicare and food stamps. Musk has repeatedly criticized the mega-spending bill over debt concerns. His frustration may also stem from the fact that the bill aims to end the EV mandate for electric vehicles. A mandate Tesla has relied on for years.
On Thursday, when journalists pressed Trump about Musk's comments, the President swiftly dismissed them. Elon Musk was commenting live on his X-account, calling Trump a “liar”.
The feud soon escalated, when Musk stated that Trump only won because of his support & money. He also reposted a 90s news clip showing the President laughing together with Jeffrey Epstein, the man arrested for the sex trafficking of minors in 2019. Trump didn’t take the posts well and threatened to cancel the government contracts of Musk’s companies.
The fight between two of the most powerful, and perhaps pettiest, men is still ongoing. Trump has often relied on bullying rhetoric when fighting with Republicans who need his support. Musk now seems like a different counterpart—someone who doesn’t need Trump and can quite literally afford a long, dragged-out fight.
In the end, Musk may lose his government benefits and his support among MAGA voters. Trump, on the other hand, is turning a close ally into a potential enemy. A powerful & rich enemy, who controls one of America’s largest social media sites. This is a lose-lose situation for both, which means Democrats across America are having a great time.
Nationalist Nawrocki (PiS) Elected President of Poland in Close Race
Right-wing nationalist and PiS candidate Nawrocki eked out a victory in Poland’s closely watched Presidential election. He won just shy of 51% of the vote in the run-off election against centrist pro-EU candidate Trzaskowski.
The results are a setback for the European Union. Poland has long been a problematic member. In the 2010s, former President Duda (also PiS) brought reforms to the country that critics say undermined the separation of powers and therefore, the health of Polish democracy.
These developments stopped or slowed when pro-EU candidate Donald Tusk became Poland's prime minister in 2023. Tusk, a progressive, clashed with President Duda when he sought to re-reform the justice system back to a more democratic one. Duda ultimately stopped the reform with his veto.
With Nawrocki’s close victory, another PiS politician will succeed Duda and leave the liberals little room to expand their visions or reform the justice system. Prime Minister Tusk has already called for a vote of confidence in his leadership.
Interesting fact: The last three presidential elections were all won by PiS candidates. All three were won with around 51% of the vote.
Ukraine’s Miracle Drone Mission Hits Deep Into Russian Territory
On June 1, 2025, Ukraine launched "Operation Spider's Web”. It was a meticulously planned drone offensive targeting Russian airbases deep within the country. The operation struck five strategic airfields, resulting in the destruction of dozens of Russian aircraft, including nuclear-capable bombers. Some of the bases were located as far as 4,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and had long seemed out of reach for Ukrainian forces.
In retaliation, Russia launched a significant missile and drone assault on Kyiv on June 6, resulting in at least three fatalities and numerous injuries. Major peace talks have been sidelined as the attacks continue to intensify.
